Hello! This is Somy Land, your reliable guide to life in Korea for foreign friends. 🇰🇷✨
Korean hair salons are really skilled, but explaining exactly the style you want in Korean is so difficult, right? You’ve probably had the disappointing experience at least once where you said, "Please cut just a little," but it ended up much shorter than you wanted.
In today’s Somy Land live session, we learned the secret to getting beautiful hair at a Korean salon without feeling flustered. Shall we review the key points together?
✅ Master the hair salon with just this! Key vocabulary & phrases
Essential vocabulary: reservation, haircut, shampoo, hair dye, perm, bangs, length, treatment (hair treatment)
Magic phrase: "Please just trim the damaged parts lightly." (💡 If you say 'Please trim it' instead of 'Please cut it,' they really will cut just a little!)
Requesting a style: "Please make my bangs come down below my eyebrows.", "Please give me a natural perm."
💸 Pro tip to avoid a shocking bill! 'Extra charge for length'
At Korean hair salons, the price often varies depending on hair length. If you have long hair that goes past your shoulders, be sure to ask this before the service starts!
"For my hair length, how much is the 'extra length charge'?'"
💡 Speak like a Korean! (Trendy slang)
거지존 (geo-ji-jon): When growing out a bob, this refers to that awkward length where the hair touches your shoulders, flips out in all directions, and looks the least pretty. ("My hair is in the 거지존 right now, so it feels really frustrating!")
뿌염 (Ppu-yeom): A shortened form of 'root dye'! It means dyeing only the roots instead of doing a full dye job when black hair has grown out.
"Action or Nothing!"
If you want a hairstyle transformation,
if you use the expressions you learned today more clearly,
you’ll be able to express yourself better! You can do it!
