About University

In the heart of tranquil Yeongwol, Gangwon-do, SeGyeong University is a specialized college that has grown together with the local community under the motto of “Love, Sincerity, Service.” Since its establishment in 1993, it has established itself as the only institution of higher education in Yeongwol County, providing practical, career-oriented education to domestic and international students with its unique identity as a “hotel dormitory-style employment-focused university.” Boasting a beautiful natural environment and a modern campus, SeGyeong University is at the forefront of nurturing practical talents to lead future industries. The greatest strength of SeGyeong University lies in its practice-oriented curriculum, centered on four specialized fields—hotel & tourism, health, welfare, and safety—across 12 departments. In particular, the hotel & tourism field offers abundant opportunities for field training linked to Yeongwol’s tourism resources, resulting in high employment rates for graduates. Each department equips students with real-world job competitiveness through faculty with extensive field experience and a robust industry-academia cooperation network. The Department of Social Welfare in the welfare field also operates an advanced bachelor’s degree program, allowing students to pursue careers beyond an associate degree. The campus features state-of-the-art practice rooms and various amenities to actively support students’ learning and daily life. In addition, active collaboration with public institutions such as Yeongwol County Office and local businesses enables students to naturally experience connections with actual workplaces. SeGyeong University also holds significant historical meaning as it has grown alongside regional development. Starting as Yeongwol Technical College in 1993, it evolved into Yeongwol College of Engineering, and in 2012 adopted its current name, continuously producing talents tailored to the needs of the local community. As the only university in Yeongwol County, it carries symbolic significance and responsibility, engaging in various collaborative projects with the community. Although it was once designated as a university with restricted government financial support, all restrictions were lifted after improved management and achievements since 2017, greatly enhancing the university’s credibility and competitiveness. Among colleges nationwide, it is recognized as a university that actively realizes industry-academia cooperation directly connected to the industrial development of the Yeongwol region. Support for international students is also being continuously strengthened. SeGyeong University is certified under the International Education Quality Assurance System (IEQAS), allowing students to receive additional points when applying for visas and scholarships. Every year, international students from various countries study together in each department, and a range of scholarships within tuition limits are awarded to those recommended by department heads and students with outstanding academic performance. Separate support is also provided for students from diverse backgrounds, including students with disabilities and marriage immigrants. The dormitory is operated safely and comfortably on campus, enabling international students to live stably. Some courses are offered in English, and customized orientation and counseling programs for international students are provided to help them quickly adapt to the new environment. Surrounded by clear air and green mountains, the SeGyeong University campus boasts a pleasant learning environment with eight buildings, a library, a large sports field, and more on a spacious site of about 90,000㎡. It is conveniently located near major city facilities such as Yeongwol County Office, with well-maintained roundabouts and road networks. Transportation is convenient to metropolitan and Gangwon region cities such as Seoul and Gangneung, allowing students to enjoy both a quiet campus life in nature and the conveniences of city living. At SeGyeong University, which offers practical education, a safe living environment, and strong support systems for international students, you can realize your dreams.
