University of Seoul (UOS) is a leading public comprehensive university in South Korea, located in the heart of Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul. Since its founding in 1918, the university has embodied innovation and public values alongside the growth of Seoul. True to its motto, “A university leading the spirit of the times and future values,” UOS is known for its rational and practical academic culture. Thanks to affordable tuition, a high scholarship rate, and strong support from the Seoul Metropolitan Government, passionate students aspiring to become “global talents with a sense of public responsibility” gather in the center of Seoul to pursue their dreams. UOS’s most prominent strengths lie in the fields of urban sciences and specialized competitiveness in the humanities and social sciences. The College of Urban Sciences offers practice-oriented education closely linked to the realities of a major city like Seoul, in areas such as urban planning, urban administration, environment, transportation, and landscape architecture, and leads in Seoul-style policy research and industry-academic cooperation. The Department of History in the College of Humanities boasts the nation’s top faculty, conducting modern historical research on topics such as Goryeo-Mongol relations, Manchu studies, and the use of databases in urban history. UOS also enjoys national acclaim in practical disciplines such as urban engineering, taxation, public administration, and business administration. In 2023, it was selected as an Excellent Institution in the International Education Quality Assurance System (IEQAS), earning high marks for its internationalized educational environment. Notably, the average tuition per student is 2,529,000 KRW (as of 2025), the lowest among major universities in Seoul, and the scholarship-to-tuition ratio is 94.3%, the highest in the country, greatly reducing students’ financial burdens. UOS has produced talented individuals with significant social impact across various fields. Its alumni include numerous public leaders such as members of the National Assembly, local government heads, and public institution executives, as well as professionals in the cultural and arts sectors, including Jeon Yong-deok (DreamWorks cinematographer), KBS and MBC announcers, popular YouTubers and cartoonists, and webtoon and drama writers. The campus is especially notable for its free and creative atmosphere, where students create and enjoy their own cultures rather than focusing on celebrities or famous influencers. Beyond simple academic competition, UOS fosters a community tradition rooted in “genuine relationships between people” and “substantial contributions to society.” The support system for international students at UOS is among the best in the country. As an IEQAS-certified university by the Ministry of Education, UOS is highly trusted for visa issuance, scholarship screening, and more. The university actively operates a Global Support Center, administrative services in Jeonnong Hall, dormitories and international residence halls, and customized programs for international students such as “Seoul Mate,” “Seoul Friends,” tutoring, and student assistantships. Courses are offered in both English and Korean, and international students can quickly adapt through mentoring from academic advisors and senior international students. A wide range of scholarships is available, covering academic performance, financial support, and international exchange. With a scholarship-to-tuition ratio approaching 100%, international students can continue their studies stably without financial burden. The UOS campus spans approximately 420,000 square meters and features modern lecture halls, an indoor gymnasium, music hall, library, dormitories, and various other facilities. It is within walking distance from Cheongnyangni and Hoegi stations on Seoul Subway Line 1, and its central location makes it easy to connect with various cultural, industrial, and administrative institutions. At University of Seoul, where vibrant flower-lined paths, a free-spirited atmosphere, and a warm, community-oriented culture thrive, you are invited to design your own future.
