Seoul Women'S College Of Nursing
Seoul Women’s College of Nursing is a cradle of nursing education in Korea, boasting over 70 years of tradition and expertise as the only women’s nursing-specialized university in Seoul. Since its establishment in 1954, the university has walked a singular path in nursing at its urban campus in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, nurturing countless female nursing talents under the motto, “An innovative university in nursing education contributing to the medical and healthcare field.” Although not large in scale, the university’s clear identity, focused solely on nursing, and its founding principles of truth, purity, and sacrifice are deeply embedded throughout the campus. The university’s greatest distinguishing features are its “single-major specialization in nursing” and “practice-oriented education.” The entire undergraduate program consists of the Department of Nursing (four-year program), so all 851 students (as of 2023) grow together toward a common goal. Twenty-eight full-time faculty members and thirty-four other instructors provide meticulous guidance, and the university is renowned for its high quality of education in the domestic nursing field. In particular, the national licensure exam pass rate has consistently ranked among the top nationwide, and numerous graduates are active in national and public hospitals, large hospitals, and healthcare institutions. Through a curriculum centered on practical training and partnerships with various medical institutions in Seoul, students develop on-site adaptability and can immediately enter the workforce upon graduation. This tradition of focusing on “training professional nursing practitioners” is a unique strength that clearly distinguishes Seoul Women’s College of Nursing from nursing departments at comprehensive universities. Historically, Seoul Women’s College of Nursing has left a significant mark on the development of nursing education in Korea. Starting in Busan in 1954 and later relocating to Seoul, the university has undergone several name changes and academic reforms, achieving its current name and status in 2012. Over the years, it has served as a gateway for female nursing professionals, producing many influential alumni throughout the Korean nursing community. While there may not be many famous politicians or celebrities among its graduates, the alumni network is a source of pride for the university, with many recognized as “nursing leaders” in clinical settings as well as in health administration, education, and research. The university has also continuously innovated its curriculum to keep pace with changing times and has been cited as a model case for women’s professional education. For international students, Seoul Women’s College of Nursing is certified by the Korean government’s “International Education Quality Assurance System (IEQAS),” which verifies its capabilities in student management and support. With IEQAS certification, visa issuance is streamlined, and additional benefits are available when applying for government scholarship programs (GKS). A variety of scholarship programs are offered, providing broad opportunities for students with outstanding academic records or financial need. Dormitories are based on double occupancy, offering a safe and comfortable environment with amenities such as meal options and shared kitchens. Korean language courses, mentoring, and cultural experience programs are also available to help international students quickly adapt to life in Korea. While some courses are offered in English, due to the nature of nursing, Korean language proficiency (such as TOPIK) is essential. Applicants undergo a rigorous evaluation process, including a study plan, recommendation letters, and proof of language proficiency, but after admission, systematic academic and living support is provided. The campus is located in the heart of Seoul’s Seodaemun-gu, offering excellent transportation convenience. With easy access to subways and buses, students can conveniently reach major hospitals in the city. The campus, though compact, boasts a cozy atmosphere and a pleasant environment for study and daily life, with women’s safety and consideration held as the highest values. The surrounding area is rich in various amenities, cultural and leisure spaces, and popular restaurants, allowing international students to enjoy a fulfilling university life. Seoul Women’s College of Nursing is a place where those truly passionate about nursing come together to grow, making it the best choice for those aspiring to become global nurses equipped with both competence and compassion.
