Located in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi-do, it is a private comprehensive university and one of Korea’s leading Christian (Protestant) institutions. Established in 1912, inheriting the vision of American missionary Arthur T. Pierson, the university has cultivated creative and global talents in various fields based on missions, unity, and biblical education. Situated at the heart of Pyeongtaek—adjacent to the city center, residential areas, and industrial complexes—it continues to expand its connections with both the local and international communities, naturally incorporating the dynamism and inclusiveness of Pyeongtaek, a multicultural city, into its campus culture. Pyeongtaek University’s most distinctive feature lies in its over 100-year tradition of Christian education, as well as its practical and interdisciplinary academic structure. Departments such as Smart Mobility, Convergence Software, and Data Information in the College of IT Engineering are producing advanced talents to lead the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The School of ICT Convergence is also actively advancing into new industries such as Media Design, Smart Content, and Environmental Convergence. Another unique strength is the university’s collaboration with local SMEs and various specialized research centers in fields like maritime logistics, fashion, and law through its Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation. With a system of nine colleges and seven graduate schools, approximately 3,600 undergraduates and 500 graduate students are enrolled. The university boasts advanced educational and living infrastructure, including a library with over 381,000 volumes, an international dormitory accommodating 1,200 students, and a Multicultural Family Support Center. Selected as a 2023 IEQAS (International Education Quality Assurance System) certified university by the Ministry of Education, Pyeongtaek University has been recognized for its student-friendly administration and internationalization infrastructure. The spirit of missions and unity accumulated over more than a century continues to be a driving force that encourages “cooperation, creativity, and challenge” among all university members.
