University Of Gyeongnam Geochang
Gyeongnam Provincial Geochang College is a public junior college located in Geochang-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do, Republic of Korea. Since its establishment in 1996, it has served as a regional hub university under the slogan “Passion and Challenge,” nurturing practical, technology-oriented talent. As one of the nation’s first provincial junior colleges, it offers a unique educational model that combines cutting-edge industry and field-oriented education within a pristine natural environment of mountains and valleys. In particular, the university’s founding background, which emphasizes the public interest and practicality of the Gyeongnam region, symbolizes both a stable financial foundation and a future-oriented educational philosophy. The university’s greatest strengths are evident in its three specialized divisions—Department of Architecture & Interior, Department of Fire Safety & Electricity, and Department of Drone & Civil Engineering—as well as its 13 associate degree programs. It operates curricula specialized in key national and regional industries such as construction, electricity, fire safety, and drones, maximizing graduates’ employment competitiveness through practice-oriented education and industry-academia cooperation. For example, the Department of Fire Safety & Electricity links field training with support for obtaining certifications, resulting in a very high acquisition rate of national technical licenses, while the Department of Drone & Civil Engineering actively responds to future industry demands by utilizing the latest drone equipment and training facilities. Additionally, the university was designated as a “Capacity Building College” in the 2018 University Basic Competency Assessment, officially recognized by the government for its educational quality and innovative capabilities. Each department actively operates networks with field experts, internships, and employment-linked programs, supporting students to acquire practical skills that enable immediate entry into the workforce upon graduation. Gyeongnam Provincial Geochang College has grown alongside the development of the local community and, as an institution established and supported directly by the Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Government, has played a pivotal role in the advancement of regional industries. Since its founding, it has produced over 10,000 skilled technical professionals, who are active not only in the Gyeongnam region but also across the country in the fields of construction, electricity, fire safety, and civil engineering. In particular, thanks to close industry-academia collaboration with the local community and field-oriented education, the employment rate of graduates exceeds the national average for junior colleges. Furthermore, through various government-supported and specialized projects, the university is equipped with state-of-the-art educational infrastructure and advanced training environments, establishing itself as a role model for practice-oriented junior colleges. The college also offers an attractive environment for international students. It operates proactive internationalization programs such as overseas study opportunities for outstanding language students and is making efforts to enhance students’ English proficiency and global mindset through exchanges with institutions such as Richland College in the United States. Participants in overseas study programs receive support of approximately KRW 3.4 million per person, and a variety of systems are in place to help international students adapt to language and cultural differences. On-campus dormitories consist of double and quadruple rooms, managed to ensure a safe and comfortable living environment. Both tuition and dormitory fees are maintained at reasonable levels typical of public universities, minimizing financial burden, and various scholarship programs are available for high-achieving students and international students. English-language courses and dedicated support staff are being gradually expanded, enabling students with limited Korean proficiency to adapt smoothly. (Please refer to the official website for information on IEQAS certification.) The campus is located in Daepyeong-ri, Geochang-gun, in a nature-friendly setting, allowing students to enjoy a balanced life of study and relaxation. Eleven modern buildings are situated throughout the campus, and well-maintained roads within and around the campus provide convenient transportation. The campus also offers easy access to nearby major cities such as Daegu and Jinju, making it easy to enjoy travel and cultural activities during weekends and vacations. Gyeongnam Provincial Geochang College will be a stable and future-oriented choice for all international students seeking to grow as “globally competent professionals with strong practical skills.”
