Korea National University Of Transportation
Korea National University of Transportation began in 1905 as a railway training institute and has established itself today as Korea’s only national university specializing in transportation. With campuses in Chungju and Jeungpyeong in Chungcheongbuk-do, and Uiwang in Gyeonggi-do, the university boasts top-level capabilities in the fields of transportation, railway, health, life sciences, and food. True to its slogan, “Global Gateway, CONNECT THE WORLD,” Korea National University of Transportation nurtures talent to lead Korea’s transportation industry and future advanced industries through over 100 years of tradition and innovative education. The university’s greatest distinction is its specialized education in transportation, including the nation’s only national railway college (Uiwang Campus). It excels in practical departments such as Railway System Engineering and Transportation Engineering, and systematically operates industry-academia cooperation with railway corporations and transport companies, field training, and customized employment support. The Chungju Campus offers a wide range of programs in the humanities, social sciences, engineering, and future convergence fields, while the Jeungpyeong Campus specializes in health, life sciences, and food, providing practice-oriented education linked to the local medical industry. The university stands out in government-supported projects and industry-academia cooperation, such as nurturing talent for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, eco-friendly energy R&D, and smart transportation systems. Its innovative capabilities were officially recognized in 2019 when it was selected as a Leading University for Industry-University Cooperation (LINC+). In addition, it established a creative maker education environment, receiving Chungju’s first Fab Lab certification in 2018. Korea National University of Transportation has produced a diverse array of talented individuals across society. Alumni active in politics, industry, and the arts include National Assembly member Kim Juyoung, Minister of Environment Yoon Sungkyu, comedian Bae Youngman, actor Lee Seunghyo, drama writer Lim Sunghan, and trot singer Jeon Boosung. Especially in the railway field, the university has continuously produced leaders in the transportation industry such as Kwon Taemyung (CEO of SR Co., Ltd.) and Jung Wangguk (Vice President of Korea Railroad Corporation). In local communities, many graduates serve in public roles as former and current mayors, county governors, and city/provincial council chairs. With its long history spanning over a century, the university’s tradition of cultivating professionals in transportation and health has made a significant impact on the development of Korean society. For international students, Korea National University of Transportation is an attractive choice. Selected as an IEQAS (International Education Quality Assurance System) certified university in 2018, it offers significant benefits in student visa issuance, scholarships, and dormitory accommodations. Various scholarships are available, including full tuition and dormitory fee waivers and tuition support for those with excellent TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) scores or outstanding high school grades. Some major courses are offered in English, and the Office of International Affairs actively operates support programs for international students, including guidance on entry, settlement, and daily life, Korean language education, mentoring, and cultural experiences. There are also extensive scholarships and overseas exchange opportunities for both new and current students. All three campuses are equipped with modern dormitory facilities, ensuring both stability and safety in student life. All campuses are conveniently located for transportation. The Chungju Campus is close to downtown Chungju, allowing students to enjoy both urban infrastructure and natural surroundings. The Uiwang Campus is connected to major city centers in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province via metropolitan subway. The Jeungpyeong Campus offers a quiet and pleasant learning environment. Each campus provides shuttle buses, various amenities, and a vibrant campus life with festivals and club activities. For international students aspiring to become professionals in Korea’s transportation industry, future advanced fields, or health and life sciences, Korea National University of Transportation will be the best choice.
