About University

Kyungpook National University (KNU), one of Korea’s leading research-oriented universities, has been a national comprehensive university located in Daegu Metropolitan City since its founding in 1946, proudly upholding its identity as “the center of education and innovation in the Republic of Korea.” Situated in the heart of Daegu, KNU continues to elevate its status not only locally and nationally, but also on the global stage through its long history, tradition, and relentless innovation. One of KNU’s greatest strengths is its solid academic foundation and diverse specialized fields. In particular, the Department of History and the Department of History Education, established in 1948 as one of the first such departments in Korea, offer systematic education and research in various areas such as Korean history, Chinese history, and world history. A select group of dedicated faculty members provides in-depth guidance to each student, and KNU boasts outstanding capabilities in history education among universities nationwide. In addition, based on its traditionally strong departments such as IT, medicine, engineering, life sciences, and agriculture, KNU actively pursues advanced interdisciplinary research and industry-academia cooperation. The Kyungpook National University Museum, designated as a government-certified Type 1 museum, is located on campus, enabling practical, hands-on education using actual artifacts and materials. This academic richness leads to active exchanges with prestigious domestic and international universities, cutting-edge research infrastructure, and selection for various national projects. KNU is also widely recognized for producing numerous social leaders and prominent figures. Its alumni are active in a broad range of fields, including members of the National Assembly, ministers, high-ranking government officials, judges and prosecutors, as well as leaders in education, media, culture, and the arts. Influential alumni include executives at major media groups such as CJ ENM and SBS, a former KBS executive, and many others who have made their mark in the entertainment and sports industries. This demonstrates that KNU is not only a place of academic learning, but also a cradle of leaders with social influence and a strong network. For international students, Kyungpook National University is one of the top choices. In 2023, KNU was selected as one of 18 excellent universities nationwide in the “International Education Quality Assurance System (IEQAS)” certified by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Justice, granting benefits such as relaxed visa issuance standards and extended part-time work hours. Currently, over 2,100 international students are enrolled, including 1,199 degree-seeking students from 74 countries and 916 exchange students from 71 countries. Tailored support is provided, including special Korean language classes, English thesis seminars, buddy programs, and career counseling. Many majors offer English tracks and English-taught courses, and a variety of scholarships are available to outstanding international students, covering full or partial tuition. Affordable and comfortable dormitory facilities and convenient living infrastructure are also provided. The campus is conveniently located in downtown Daegu, offering excellent accessibility from anywhere in the country, with direct connections to the subway and city buses, making it easy to balance academic and daily life. The campus features state-of-the-art libraries, sports facilities, cafes, and restaurants, creating a student-friendly environment. A wide range of student clubs, cultural events, and international exchange programs are actively operated.
