Jeonbuk National University
Chonbuk National University is a leading national university located in Jeonju, a city where Korean tradition and modernity blend harmoniously. Since its establishment in 1947, the university has led scholarship and culture in the Honam region, proudly upholding its identity as “the center of balanced regional development and global innovation in Korea.” The main campus is situated in the heart of Jeonju, offering a unique environment where students can experience Korean history and culture alongside the vibrancy of a modern city. One of Chonbuk National University’s greatest strengths is its competitiveness across various specialized campuses and academic fields. With campuses in several cities, including Jeonju, Gochang, and Namwon, the university is especially renowned for its Jeonju Campus, which features a Hanok-style plaza commemorating 70 years of tradition and the “Munhweru” pavilion, spaces that showcase the unique beauty of Korea. The university comprises 15 colleges and over 100 departments, ranging from the humanities to advanced sciences. Its Department of History, in particular, boasts educational and research capabilities on par with major universities in Korea. The recently renewed Namwon Campus as a “Glocal Campus,” close cooperation with local communities, and industry-academia collaboration programs—especially in agriculture, bio, and engineering—are distinctive competitive advantages unique to Chonbuk National University. The university has produced talented individuals across various sectors of society. Notable alumni include singer Lee Moon-sae, actor Park Bo-gum, musical star Kim Junsu (JYJ), U-Know Yunho (TVXQ), and Bora (SISTAR), all of whom are leading figures in K-POP and the Korean Wave. In addition, many graduates are active in politics, media, the arts, and sports, making the university truly deserving of its reputation as a “cradle of Korea’s future talent.” The campus, adorned with a multilingual monument commemorating its 70-year history and blending Korean tradition with a global sensibility, instills pride in its students. Support for international students is also among the best in Korea. Chonbuk National University has obtained IEQAS (International Education Quality Assurance System) certification from the Ministry of Education, which provides additional points in visa and scholarship evaluations for international students. The Korean Language Institute offers systematic education, with year-round TOPIK preparation classes and various foreign language courses such as English and Chinese. Some undergraduate courses are conducted in English to lower language barriers, and international student-friendly scholarships, affordable tuition (about 23,000–45,000 KRW per credit), and seasonal session systems help reduce financial burdens. Dormitory admission is convenient, and dormitory and living expenses are much more reasonable compared to the Seoul area. The International Affairs Office provides comprehensive visa and daily life support, and the OASIS system ensures dedicated assistance for international students. Campus life is also a major attraction. The Jeonju Campus is filled with a clean natural environment, expansive lawns, Hanok-style cafes, walking paths, and a vibrant club and festival culture. Nearby, Jeonju Hanok Village, famous eateries, and cultural spaces allow students to fully enjoy both Korean tradition and modernity. With convenient transportation such as KTX and express buses, domestic and international travel is easy. At Chonbuk National University, students can enjoy both academic growth and a rich, fulfilling life experience.
