Konyang University is an innovative private university representing the central region of the Republic of Korea, with two campuses located in Nonsan, Chungcheongnam-do and Daejeon Metropolitan City. Since its establishment in 1990 by Dr. Hee-Soo Kim, a medical professional, the university has led a variety of interdisciplinary education programs—including the medical and health fields—based on its founding philosophy of “Pursuit of Truth, Creation of History, and Service to Humanity.” Konyang University emphasizes student-centered practical education, industry-academia cooperation, and strengthening global competencies, firmly establishing its identity in realizing human-centered social values. The university’s greatest strength lies in its specialized competitiveness in the medical, health, and bio fields. The Daejeon Medical Campus houses state-of-the-art educational facilities such as Konyang University Hospital, which opened in 1999, as well as the Nursing and Health Science Halls. As a result, Konyang University consistently ranks among the top nationwide in medical employment rates, and its Department of Physical Therapy offers a dual degree program with AUT in New Zealand, enabling graduates to obtain physical therapist qualifications in English-speaking countries. In 2021, marking its 30th anniversary, the university opened its second hospital, contributing to the expansion of the region’s medical infrastructure. It has also become the first university in Korea to provide free health check-ups for all international students, presenting a leading model for embracing students from various countries. The university has been recognized for its excellence in numerous external evaluations, such as the Ethics Management Award and Best University in Academic Fields, and is increasingly producing graduates who are active in various sectors of society. Konyang University also takes great pride in its support system for international students. It has been certified for eight consecutive years by the Ministry of Education as an IEQAS (International Education Quality Assurance System) university, providing a favorable environment for government support in areas such as visas and scholarships. Each year, over 500 international students from the United States, Japan, China, Mongolia, Southeast Asia, and other countries choose Konyang University, and all international students are guaranteed dormitory accommodation for four years. Government-invited scholarship students receive full dormitory fee support, free health check-ups, an annual Korean cultural experience, and one-on-one Korean language tutors, offering substantial support for settlement and learning. As an official TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) administering university, Konyang also operates a Korean Language Institute.
