DGIST
Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST) is a research-oriented science and engineering university located in Daegu, the heart of scientific and technological innovation in the Republic of Korea. Under the motto of “World-Class Convergence Research-Oriented University,” DGIST was established in 2004 as a national research institute and has experienced rapid growth, launching its undergraduate program in 2014. With a campus designed to embody the next generation of research institutions and an innovative curriculum linked to national strategic industries, DGIST has established itself as a core institution representing Korea’s science and technology-focused universities, despite its short history. DGIST’s most distinctive feature is its “Single Convergence Undergraduate School” system. Incoming students are admitted to the School of Convergence, without traditional departmental divisions, and organically study a wide range of fields such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, life sciences, engineering, computer science, and artificial intelligence. Before graduation, students can deepen their studies in advanced fields such as AI, semiconductors, robotics, brain science, energy, and biotechnology according to their career interests. In 2014, the first undergraduate class had an enrollment quota of 200 students and a competitive ratio of 9.07 to 1, attracting elite students. The “Research-Startup Track,” which allows students to prepare for both research and technology entrepreneurship, is actively in place. Additionally, DGIST is one of Korea’s five major science and technology-focused universities, alongside POSTECH, KAIST, GIST, and UNIST, and is engaged in active collaborative research with industry, academia, and government. Major corporations and research institutes are located throughout the campus, providing students with opportunities for cutting-edge, hands-on experience. DGIST’s influence is expanding both domestically and internationally. Graduates of its master’s and doctoral programs are active as professors and researchers at leading research institutions and universities worldwide, including KAIST, UNIST, Asan Medical Center, Ewha Womans University, Georgetown University, University of Houston, and the Technical University of Denmark. DGIST has achieved outstanding results in various government-supported projects (such as BK21 and national R&D projects) and is producing experts who lead future high-tech industries in fields like brain science, robotics, new materials, and AI. DGIST alumni are expanding their influence not only in academia but also in major corporations, startups, ventures, and public institutions, establishing DGIST as a “cradle of science and technology talent.” For international students, DGIST offers unique opportunities. Both undergraduate and graduate students receive full tuition waivers and monthly living stipends (scholarships) as standard benefits. All students can reside in modern on-campus dormitories, where students of diverse nationalities live together. Many courses are offered in English, and as a university certified by IEQAS (International Education Quality Assurance System), DGIST provides advantages in visa issuance and scholarship evaluation. From the admissions stage, a dedicated support team for international students offers comprehensive assistance, including guidance, adaptation to campus life, language support, and career counseling. There are abundant opportunities for global exchange programs, industry-academia internships, and research participation, enabling students to grow into globally competitive talent. The DGIST campus is conveniently located near downtown Daegu, offering easy transportation and a harmonious blend of nature and advanced facilities. The campus is equipped with a variety of indoor and outdoor sports facilities, cultural spaces, cafes, and restaurants, allowing students to focus on their studies in a safe and pleasant environment. DGIST awaits those who aspire to become convergence-driven leaders and true global science and technology professionals who will change the future. Take on the challenge of innovation in Korea and a new future of global engagement at DGIST.
