Daejeon Institute Of Science And Technology
Daejeon Institute of Science and Technology is a private junior college located at 100 Hyecheon-ro, in the heart of Seo-gu, Daejeon Metropolitan City. With a history spanning over 80 years, it has established itself as the “Mecca of Practical Education,” nurturing field-oriented professionals. Based on its founding philosophy of “Respect for Heaven, Devotion to Country, and Love for People,” the university is renowned not only in the Daejeon area but also nationwide for producing professional workers in diverse fields such as health and life sciences, advanced engineering, social education, and arts and physical education. The university’s greatest strength lies in its outstanding competitiveness in the health and life sciences fields, standing out among junior colleges nationwide. By focusing investment in departments where practical training and field experience are crucial—such as the Department of Nursing, Department of Physical Therapy, and Department of Beauty Design—it systematically operates programs from associate degrees to advanced bachelor’s degree courses. The Department of Nursing boasts excellent national exam pass rates and employment rates, while the Departments of Physical Therapy and Beauty Design also play key roles in supplying skilled professionals to the Daejeon region. The campus, spanning 247,646㎡, offers a much more spacious and pleasant environment compared to typical junior colleges. With a total of five divisions—Advanced Engineering, Social and Education, Arts and Physical Education, among others—32 departments, and four majors, the diverse curriculum actively supports each student’s aptitude and career path. Recently, the university has strengthened industry-academia cooperation with local organizations such as the Daejeon Tourism Organization and continues to innovate in response to the demands of the times, such as implementing ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) education management. Since its founding in 1940, Daejeon Institute of Science and Technology has led changes and developments in junior college education not only in Daejeon but throughout Korea. In 2011, the school changed its name to Hyecheon University, and in 2014, it was relaunched as Daejeon Institute of Science and Technology, securing its symbolic status as one of the region’s first private junior colleges. Numerous graduates produced over its long history are active in fields such as healthcare, beauty, engineering, and the arts, and are recognized as trusted professionals in local communities and industries. In particular, the university has built a close network with hospitals, welfare facilities, and companies in the Daejeon area, greatly enhancing graduates’ adaptability and social impact. Support for international students is also systematically provided. As a participant in the Ministry of Education’s International Education Quality Assurance System (IEQAS), Daejeon Institute of Science and Technology offers various benefits, including stable visa issuance and additional scholarship points. Through some lectures and practical training conducted in English, Korean language courses, and a variety of cultural experience programs, the university lowers language barriers and helps international students adapt quickly. Both new and current students have broad access to scholarship opportunities, and there are dedicated counseling centers, mentoring services, and employment-linked programs for international students. The campus is equipped with modern dormitory facilities, with priority given to international students within one year of arrival, ensuring stable housing. While tuition varies by department, the university is notable for its high investment in practical training and field education compared to other junior colleges. The campus is adjacent to a pleasant residential area in Bokgu-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon, and boasts excellent public transportation access, making daily life convenient. On campus, modern educational and cultural facilities such as Hyecheon Tower are available, and the surrounding area is filled with amenities, medical institutions, and green spaces. With a vibrant campus life shared by over 4,700 students, and a tradition of coexistence between tradition and innovation, the university promises a warm welcome and growth opportunities for international students as well.
