Seoul Theological University is a leading private Christian university in South Korea, established in 1911 and located in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province. Boasting over 110 years of tradition, the university is dedicated to nurturing global leaders who combine faith and expertise, based on its founding philosophy of “Truth and Holiness.” With a pleasant campus situated in downtown Bucheon and its central role within the Korea Holiness Church, Seoul Theological University is recognized as a prestigious institution that harmoniously blends religious values with modern education. The university’s greatest strength lies in its specialized education system for training Christian ministers and church leaders. A wide range of departments related to Christianity are offered, including Theology, Christian Education, Church Music, Social Welfare, Childcare, and Missionary English. In fact, many key figures representing the Holiness Church in Korea are alumni of this institution. As of 2023, there are approximately 2,015 undergraduate and 739 graduate students enrolled. Through “STU VISION 2025,” the university is focusing on cultivating global ministers and future-oriented leadership education. The Department of Church Music, in particular, enjoys nationwide acclaim and holds a distinguished position in the fields of worship music and praise ministry. Recently, the university has expanded its academic offerings beyond Christian ministry to include practical fields such as social welfare and early childhood education, concentrating on producing talented individuals with both competence and character. Seoul Theological University is regarded as a cradle for the growth and development of Korean Protestantism, especially the Holiness Church, throughout its long history. Originating from the Oriental Missionary Society’s mission in Korea in 1907, it established itself as the nation’s first indigenous Christian leadership training institution, and has since produced countless pastors, theologians, musicians, and social leaders. Alumni have laid the foundation for the growth of the Holiness Church, one of the three major denominations in Korea, and are active as influential leaders with both faith and expertise across various sectors of society. The faculty includes renowned authorities in theology and the arts from both Korea and abroad, and alumni excel in diverse fields such as music, education, and social welfare. Support for international students is also highly systematic. Seoul Theological University is certified by the International Education Quality Assurance System (IEQAS), meeting trusted international standards in areas such as visa issuance and scholarships. Various scholarship programs are available, including the “Missionary Scholarship for International Students,” which provides up to an 80% tuition reduction depending on TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) scores. Tailored support is offered for international students, including orientation at the start of studies, Korean language and academic assistance, cultural experiences, safety and health programs, and global citizenship programs. Student dormitories are operated separately for men and women, offering a comfortable environment, affordable costs, and meal services to enhance living convenience. In addition, facilities such as an international lounge, meditation room (prayer room), and library are well-equipped for international students on campus. The campus is centrally located in Sosa-dong, Bucheon, offering excellent access to public transportation, and features a concentration of lecture halls, research spaces, club rooms, and welfare facilities, resulting in high student satisfaction. There are active opportunities for club activities, worship, music, and community service, as well as dedicated study spaces for graduate students, creating an environment conducive to academic focus. For international students, Seoul Theological University provides a solid foundation to develop both faith and professional skills, enabling them to play active roles in Korean society, the church, and on the global stage.
