Kyungdong University
Kyungdong University Metropol Campus (Yangju) is a private university located in Yangju, Gyeonggi-do, the gateway to the northern metropolitan area of Korea, with a clear identity as an “innovation-driven university cultivating talent to meet industry demand.” Since its establishment in 1996, Kyungdong University has grown rapidly, building a three-campus system specialized in the fields of healthcare, tourism, and industry. Among them, the Metropol Campus focuses on nurturing creative and practical professionals by concentrating key departments in the humanities, social sciences, arts and physical education, and engineering. The university’s education system, which emphasizes innovation, practicality, and strengthening employment competitiveness, is best represented by its slogan, “Employment Academy.” At the Metropol Campus, practice-oriented departments aligned with industry trends—such as Architectural Design, Design, Business Administration, Sports Marketing, Computer Engineering, Information Security, Police Administration, Physical Education, and Hotel Culinary Arts—are operated, with active industry-academic cooperation and project-based education closely linked to real industrial sites. In particular, the fields of architecture and design are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and practical training environments, while business, computer, and information security departments leverage networks with metropolitan industrial complexes to enhance employment rates and on-site adaptability. Every year, over 400 international students develop global competencies at this campus alongside friends from around the world, and strengths include exchange programs with 63 universities in 15 countries, English-track lectures, and overseas internships. As of 2023, approximately 7,000 undergraduates are distributed across campuses, but Metropol Campus serves as the practical hub of the university, concentrating administrative and support functions. Kyungdong University is expanding its social influence by producing numerous well-known alumni. The fact that stars in K-POP, entertainment, and the arts—such as Won Bin, Baek Ji-young, Lee Kwang-soo, Kim Junsu (2PM), Nam Woo-hyun (INFINITE), and Yang Yo-seob (Highlight)—are alumni is a special attraction for international students interested in the entertainment and media industries. In addition, the university consistently produces creative leaders in various fields, including comedians, producers, directors, and professors, enhancing its brand value. High employment rates through practical education, industry-academic cooperation with renowned domestic and international companies and institutions, and selection as an “Outstanding ROTC Unit” by the government are unique strengths of Kyungdong University. Support for international students is also noteworthy. Kyungdong University is certified by the Korean Ministry of Education’s IEQAS (International Education Quality Assurance System), providing extra points for visa issuance and scholarship applications. The university operates a Global International Student Scholarship system, offering up to eight semesters of tuition reduction based on admission scores (up to KRW 24 million for engineering, natural sciences, and arts/physical education; up to KRW 16 million for humanities and social sciences), with additional scholarships for outstanding students. The Metropol Campus features modern dormitory facilities accommodating up to 497 students, with excellent security and living convenience. Furthermore, the International Education Center provides a one-stop support system including Korean language education, mentoring, daily life and visa counseling, shuttle buses to Seoul and major metropolitan cities, and overseas language training scholarships (about KRW 5.49 million per person), creating a student-friendly environment. Other strengths include English-taught courses, a multinational student body (427 international students from 3 countries at Metropol Campus), and K-Culture experience programs. The campus boasts excellent accessibility to Seoul, with shuttle buses operating from Dobongsan Station on the metropolitan subway and nearby cities, as well as a pleasant natural environment and cutting-edge educational infrastructure. Various club activities, sports facilities, and global cultural exchange events are held on and off campus, helping international students adapt quickly. Kyungdong University Metropol Campus is the optimal choice for international students aspiring to become “global practical leaders,” offering practical education, a stable student life, and an extensive career network.
