Korea National University Of Education
Korea National University of Education (KNUE) is the only comprehensive teacher training university in South Korea, cultivating future educators on its spacious and pleasant campus in Cheongju, Chungcheongbuk-do. Established in 1984 with a strong identity as “the center of education, nurturing future teacher leaders of Korea,” KNUE goes beyond simple teacher training to encompass educational research and teacher retraining, making it a truly specialized university in education. Its campus, spanning approximately 770,000㎡ (230,000 pyeong) and consisting of 56 buildings, boasts the highest level of spatial infrastructure among national and public universities in Korea, providing an environment where each student can grow amidst vast natural surroundings. KNUE’s greatest strength is that it is “the only university in Korea with the status of a comprehensive teacher training institution.” Its four colleges and 25 teacher training departments systematically operate a wide range of education-related majors, including early childhood education, elementary education, secondary humanities, social sciences, sciences, arts and physical education, and special education. KNUE maintains the highest national standards in teacher certification exam pass rates and teacher retraining. In particular, through its double major system, students can obtain two or more teaching qualifications, greatly enhancing their competitiveness in the field of education. Additionally, the presence of affiliated kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high schools on campus makes practical training and field experience easily accessible, allowing students to build both academic knowledge and practical skills simultaneously. The campus is also adjacent to public institutions in the education sector, such as the National Training Institute for Education and the National Institute of Special Education, facilitating active industry-academic and field collaboration. Korea National University of Education has had a significant impact on the Korean education sector. It has consistently produced leaders in various fields such as teachers, education administrators, and education researchers, and its alumni include notable figures in culture and the arts, such as actor Um Tae-woong, journalist Sohn Suk-hee, and actress Shin So-yul. Above all, KNUE-trained education experts play a key role in advancing Korean public education by implementing innovative teaching methods and educational philosophies in schools across the country. Since its opening in 1985, KNUE has earned unparalleled trust and prestige in Korean society, being known as the “teacher of teachers” and “leader in education.” Support for international students is also systematic. KNUE is certified by IEQAS (International Education Quality Assurance System) and has excellent systems for student visa issuance and scholarship support. Students with outstanding TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) scores can receive scholarships covering up to the full amount of tuition, and foreign students with excellent academic performance during their studies can also benefit from tuition reductions ranging from half to the full amount. The Global Language Education Center offers Korean language courses, and some majors provide lectures in English, making it easier for students from various countries to adapt to their studies. The dormitories offer a variety of options for male, female, and international students, with choices ranging from single to quadruple rooms, each fully equipped with desks, beds, heating and cooling, washing machines, kitchens, and other necessary facilities. On-campus amenities such as convenience stores, fitness centers, and cafes also contribute to a high level of satisfaction among international students. KNUE’s campus boasts beautiful natural scenery and clean facilities throughout all four seasons. The central rotary where Cheongram Avenue and the Zelkova Tree Road meet, along with the vast green spaces, provide students with places for healing and inspiration. Thanks to Cheongju’s transportation network, access to major cities such as Seoul and Daejeon is convenient, and various transportation options including campus and city buses and trains are available. The unique charm of KNUE lies in the fact that students can enjoy both academic pursuits and relaxation in a spacious and pleasant environment.
