Korea Nazarene University
Nazarene University is a prestigious private university established in 1954, with the identity of being “Korea’s leading specialized university in rehabilitation and welfare, where people with and without disabilities grow together.” Located in Ssangyong-dong, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan, Chungcheongnam-do, the university inherits the founding philosophy of the International Church of the Nazarene and has focused on nurturing talented individuals who embody philanthropy and service. Nazarene University has been recognized as the top institution in Korea for welfare and inclusive education, and stands out as a unique educational institution that cultivates genuine ‘servant leaders’ required by future society. Above all, Nazarene University’s greatest distinction is being ranked number one in Korea in the field of ‘rehabilitation and welfare’ and serving as a pioneering model for inclusive education for people with disabilities. The university has been selected as an excellent institution in various government and public agency evaluations, including the Ministry of Education’s assessment of educational welfare support for students with disabilities. It operates the nation’s only regular four-year degree program for students with learning disabilities (Department of Rehabilitation and Independent Living). In addition, it offers a Universal Character Design major specialized for students with hearing impairments, as well as a total of 35 specialized departments in various areas of rehabilitation and welfare. Of the approximately 6,000 students, 312 are students with disabilities, demonstrating Nazarene University’s realization of an educational environment without distinction between students with and without disabilities. Furthermore, the university continuously strengthens its practical education system through global exchange programs, interdisciplinary education, industry-academia cooperation, and customized career support. Since being promoted to a regular university in 1991, Nazarene University has set the standard for rehabilitation and welfare education in Korea. Numerous universities and institutions across the country have benchmarked Nazarene University’s inclusive education system for people with disabilities, establishing it as a role model for dedicated education for the socially disadvantaged. Under the vision of “a prestigious specialized university faithful to the basics,” and thanks to the dedication of founder Dr. Eun-Soo Oh and his family, the university has produced countless alumni who have contributed to the development of the local community and the nation. In particular, it has produced many influential professionals and leaders in fields such as rehabilitation and welfare, nursing, health, social welfare, and psychology. Nazarene University also offers special opportunities for international students. There are general and major courses conducted in English, global exchange programs, and customized career and life support programs exclusively for international students. As a university certified by IEQAS (International Education Quality Assurance System), applicants can receive additional points for visa and scholarship support. Scholarships are widely available based on entrance and academic performance, and dormitories can be used at reasonable costs in a comfortable and safe environment. On campus, there are practical support systems for international students, including a multicultural community support center, tailored counseling for international students, and Korean language education. The pleasant Ssangyong-dong campus in Cheonan offers a learning environment that combines proximity to the Seoul metropolitan area, convenient transportation, and a pristine natural setting. Student welfare facilities such as the international building, library, sports facilities, and cultural spaces are well established, and a variety of cultural and exchange events are held every year, including international student festivals, concerts, and community service activities. Nazarene University practices the value of “growing together while respecting differences,” and supports international students in pursuing their global dreams in the best possible environment.
