Hankuk University Of Foreign Studies
Hankuk University of Foreign Studies is the only university in Korea specializing in foreign languages and international studies, located in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, the capital of the Republic of Korea. Since its establishment in 1954, it has established itself as a hub for nurturing global talent both domestically and internationally, based on its identity as the “Gateway of Knowledge to the World.” The university offers more than 45 language majors and a variety of international studies programs. With a dual campus system in Seoul and the Global Campus in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do, it boasts a unique learning environment that combines the advantages of both urban and natural settings. The greatest strengths of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies lie in “foreign language education” and “internationalization.” Starting as Korea’s first university specialized in foreign language education, it now offers a wide range of major programs covering not only major world languages such as English, Chinese, Spanish, Russian, and Arabic, but also less commonly taught languages like Romanian, Vietnamese, and Swedish. Operating the largest number of language majors in the world as a single university, students can develop both practical language skills and a deep understanding of global cultures. In addition, interdisciplinary majors and practice-oriented curricula in fields such as international commerce, international relations, interpretation and translation, and area studies broaden opportunities for careers in multinational corporations, international organizations, diplomacy, and media worldwide. Notably, exchange programs with over 100 overseas universities, various international joint degree programs, and global industry-academic cooperation exemplify HUFS’s unique international network capabilities. Numerous prominent alumni attest to the social standing of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. From Hallyu stars such as broadcaster Kim Ji-seok, actors Cha In-pyo, Kim Jun-hyun, Park Sung-woong, singers Lee Seung-hwan and Younha, to various journalists, global businesspeople, diplomats, and politicians, many have nurtured their dreams on this campus. Renowned figures such as world-class mountaineer Um Hong-gil and announcer Jo Woo-jong are also HUFS graduates. Furthermore, by conferring honorary doctorates to world leaders such as former President of Peru Alberto Fujimori and former President of the Soviet Union Mikhail Gorbachev, the university continues to proudly demonstrate its influence as a cradle of global leadership in the international community. The support system for international students is among the best in the country. Hankuk University of Foreign Studies is an “IEQAS” (International Education Quality Assurance System) certified university designated by the Ministry of Education, offering significant advantages in visa and scholarship screening for international students. Many major courses are offered in English, enabling students to study without language barriers. Applicants who meet official English proficiency requirements (such as TOEFL iBT, IELTS) or are from English-speaking countries can enroll through the English track. There is a systematic and friendly “Global Care” system in place, including various scholarships for new and transfer international students (covering 20–100% of tuition and dormitory provision), customized Korean language training, dedicated administrative support teams, student mentoring, and cultural exchange programs. Both the Global Campus and Seoul Campus are equipped with state-of-the-art dormitories, allowing students to focus on their studies in a safe and comfortable environment. Campus life at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies is also uniquely attractive. Its proximity to the heart of Seoul provides easy access to a wide range of cultural and industrial infrastructure, while the Global Campus offers an intensive learning environment in a nature-friendly setting. Dozens of foreign language and culture clubs, a variety of global festivals (such as the “Yeokdongjeon”), and active student organizations help international students adapt quickly and interact with others. If you wish to grow into a “true global talent who communicates with the world,” start your dream at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies.
