Busan University Of Foreign Studies
Busan University of Foreign Studies is the only private Protestant mission university in Korea specializing in foreign languages, located in Geumjeong-gu, Busan Metropolitan City. True to its slogan, “Small but a Gateway to the World,” the university has concentrated 35 departments, 11 majors, and 5 colleges within its compact campus, focusing on nurturing global talent. The campus, which can be toured in just 20 minutes, reduces the distance between students and enables dense academic and cultural exchanges. The university’s greatest strength lies in its clear specialization in foreign language and global education. Busan University of Foreign Studies has established specialized colleges by continent and field, including Europe & the Americas, Asia, Social Sciences, Business & Economics, and IT. The College of Europe & the Americas and the College of Asia offer a wide range of language majors such as English, German, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, and Thai, providing the broadest selection of languages among Korean universities. In fact, Busan University of Foreign Studies has built a reputation as a “global campus” through its annual intake of international students and exchange students from various countries, as well as exchange programs with domestic and overseas partner universities. Notably, its overseas employment and training programs, multicultural convergence majors, and foreign language-exclusive courses (such as English and Chinese) organized by the Office of International Affairs demonstrate the university’s distinctive educational capabilities. In addition, there are active student-centered growth support programs such as motivational programs for freshmen, departmental experiences, and a career development center. Based on its historical background as Korea’s first foreign language mission school, Busan University of Foreign Studies has produced numerous influential graduates in various sectors of society. In particular, many alumni are active in multinational corporations, diplomacy and trade, and the cultural and arts sectors, making the range of career paths after graduation especially broad. Graduates of Busan University of Foreign Studies are active in global companies, international organizations, media, and education both in Korea and abroad, leading the trend of multiculturalism and internationalization in Korea. Furthermore, the overseas achievements and diverse global networks of alumni serve as valuable mentors and assets for current students. The support system for international students is also a point of pride for Busan University of Foreign Studies. The university is certified as an IEQAS (International Education Quality Assurance System) institution by the Ministry of Education, providing clear advantages in Korean visa applications and scholarship opportunities. Centered around the Office of International Affairs, the university offers tailored services for international students, including guidance on course registration, foreign language-exclusive lectures, counseling for daily life and academics, and career support. Each semester, international students receive priority dormitory (Woeseong Residence Hall) assignments, scholarship programs (for academic excellence, living support, etc.), and access to Korean and various foreign language courses, ensuring a stable academic and living environment. In addition to major language courses such as English and Chinese, a variety of cultural exchange programs help international students adapt. Above all, the “small but close-knit” campus environment and close communication between faculty and students enhance international student satisfaction. The campus of Busan University of Foreign Studies is conveniently located in downtown Busan, offering easy transportation and a pleasant natural environment with mountains and the sea nearby. All essential facilities—including modern lecture halls, dormitories, gymnasium, and student amenities—are concentrated on campus, maximizing efficiency in daily life. The dormitories prioritize cleanliness and safety, with dedicated spaces for international students. The vibrant and dynamic international city of Busan, with its culture, diverse cuisine, and sea festivals, offers international students a unique experience. Busan University of Foreign Studies is the university best suited for “your first step toward the world.”
