Hanbat National University
Located at the heart of Daejeon Metropolitan City’s future industrial center, Hanbat National University is a comprehensive four-year national university with a long tradition, established in 1927. Under the slogan “An Innovative University Creating Future Value through University-Industry Integration,” the university emphasizes practical education and university-industry cooperation, growing alongside the local community. It is especially highly regarded both domestically and internationally in the fields of engineering and IT. The main campus, situated on the boundary between the city center and the high-tech industrial complex in Deokmyeong-dong, Yuseong-gu, offers excellent access to research and industrial networks. Hanbat National University’s greatest strength lies in its “university-industry integrated innovation.” The university comprises six colleges—College of Engineering, College of Information Technology, College of Construction, Environment and Design, College of Humanities, College of Business and Economics, and College of Future Convergence Industry—with 30 departments, 2 divisions, and 4 graduate schools. In particular, it operates the C+U200 education system to respond to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, systematically supporting students in acquiring global core competencies. Taking advantage of its proximity to the Daedeok Research and Development Special Zone, the university focuses on nurturing practical talents through international joint research with institutions such as Germany’s Fraunhofer Institute, 16 university-industry cooperation organizations, and 19 affiliated research institutes. In fact, it is receiving nationwide attention for various university-industry cooperation and startup support projects, and is actively participating in government-supported programs such as being selected for the Ministry of Knowledge Economy’s Innopolis Campus. Historically, Hanbat National University has maintained a close relationship with local industry. Starting as Hongseong Public Industrial School, it developed into Daejeon Public Industrial Middle School, Daejeon Technical High School, Daejeon Technical College, and Daejeon Industrial University, specializing in industrial and technical fields, before changing its name to Hanbat National University in 2001 and transitioning to a general comprehensive university in 2012. Thanks to this tradition as an industrial university, it has produced many practical leaders in engineering, IT, construction and environment, and design. Its distinguished alumni include Park Beom-gye (politician), Baek Seung-hoon (entrepreneur), Yum Hong-chul (former Mayor of Daejeon), as well as creators such as “Banzz” and broadcaster Yumddaeng, who are active in various fields. For international students, Hanbat National University serves as a solid foundation for growth. As a university certified by IEQAS (International Education Quality Assurance System by the Korean Ministry of Education), students receive preferential treatment in visa issuance and scholarship applications. Over 200 international students enroll each year, and the university offers English tracks, numerous English-taught courses, and multilingual guidance to minimize academic barriers. Various forms of financial support, including scholarships exclusively for international students and living scholarships, are available, and dormitory accommodation is guaranteed for both short-term and long-term international students. The Office of International Affairs provides one-stop services from admission to graduation, systematically operating programs for local adaptation, Korean language education, mentoring, and career/employment support. Its proximity to the Daedeok Research Complex is also a major advantage, allowing students to directly experience a global research environment. The campus is located at a major transportation hub in Daejeon, offering excellent accessibility from anywhere in the country via KTX, subway, and express buses. It is close to Yuseong Hot Springs, Daejeon Museum of Art, and the Daedeok Research Complex, providing a rich cultural and leisure environment. Comfortable dormitories and student residences, a variety of clubs and festivals, and affordable tuition (as a national university) all ensure a safe and pleasant environment for international students.
