Kyungbok University
Kyungbok University, embracing the “Luck of Seoul,” is a private vocational university operating two campuses across Namyangju and Pocheon in Gyeonggi-do, within the Seoul metropolitan area of South Korea. Since its establishment in 1992, the university has focused on cultivating practical talent under the principles of creativity, autonomy, and service. It boasts top-tier competitiveness in the metropolitan area, especially in the fields of health, medical care, and the arts. True to its slogan, “Vision 2030: Cultivating Talents, Training Champions!”, Kyungbok University has established a unique position in employment-oriented practical education and the enhancement of global competencies. The university’s greatest strengths lie in its outstanding employment rate and field-oriented education. For the past three consecutive years, Kyungbok University has ranked first nationwide among vocational universities for employment rates, with its reputation being particularly prominent in the metropolitan area. Across seven faculties and 34 departments, the university offers a variety of 2- to 4-year programs. Notably, the Department of Nursing is a four-year program accredited by the Korean Accreditation Board of Nursing Education, and is recognized as the best in the metropolitan area in terms of graduate numbers and its practical, field-centered curriculum. Other health and medical departments, such as Dental Hygiene, Physical Therapy, and Clinical Pathology, enhance practical competitiveness through advanced major courses and industry-academia cooperation programs. Additionally, the university excels in future-oriented fields such as Performing Arts, Applied Music, Design, Fourth Industrial Revolution convergence, and Public Talent. In particular, the Department of Performing Arts is equipped with a professional theater, “Wudang Hall,” where numerous original musicals and plays are produced every year, and graduates are active in cultural and artistic fields both domestically and internationally. Kyungbok University stands out not only for its practical education but also for its social impact and renowned alumni. Many well-known cultural and artistic figures, including singer Lim Young-woong and actors Kim Sung-oh and Kim Hwan-hee, are graduates of the university. Alumni from the Department of Performing Arts have consistently achieved recognition in the cultural sector, such as winning the Korea Musical Awards and advancing to the finals of national theater festivals. The university is also proactive in industry-academia cooperation and international exchange. It has established sisterhood relationships with George Washington University and Newbury College in the United States, Beppu University and Sangmyung University in Japan, the University of Manitoba in Canada, and the University of Newcastle in Australia, operating global programs such as language training, student exchange, and transfer admissions. Kyungbok University also plays a leading role in government-supported overseas employment programs, such as the “K-MOVE” project and government global field training. For international students, Kyungbok University is a “cradle of global professional talent.” For five consecutive years from 2019 to 2023, it has been selected as an IEQAS (International Education Quality Assurance System) certified university by the Ministry of Education, ensuring reliability and benefits in visas, scholarships, and more. The university offers systematic, tailored education for foreigners, including a Korean language program at the International Language Institute established in 2018, exchange student programs, and short-term training. Currently, over 750 international students are enrolled in degree and Korean language programs, and Kyungbok University attracts the largest number of government-invited international scholarship students (GKS) among vocational universities. The scholarship system is highly diverse and extensive, offering 25 types of scholarships (ranging from full tuition to 40% reduction), opportunities for free overseas language training (sending 240 students annually to MDIS University in Singapore), and Fourth Industrial Revolution Talent Scholarships for new students, minimizing financial burden. English-track courses are available in some majors, and entry requirements are reasonable, requiring TOPIK Level 3 or higher or internal evaluation. Modern dormitories, such as the Namyangju Second Dormitory “Sungnye-won,” provide excellent living convenience and academic environments. Kyungbok University boasts a pleasant campus located on a mountainside, convenient access to Seoul metropolitan subways and buses, state-of-the-art dormitories, and a wide range of living infrastructure. Both the Namyangju and Pocheon campuses are environmentally friendly and close to Seoul, making them ideal for students seeking a balance between study and life. At Kyungbok University, where over 6,000 domestic and international students and more than 500 faculty members come together, you too can embark on a special journey to become a global talent.
