Since its establishment in 1968, Dongduk Women’s University has firmly established itself as a leading institution for women’s higher education in Korea, under the clear identity of “cultivating creative female talent.” Located near Sangwolgok Station in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, the campus offers a space where urban convenience and artistic sensibility coexist. With over 50 years of tradition and innovation, Dongduk Women’s University has produced female experts recognized both domestically and internationally in various fields such as arts, fashion, applied music, humanities and social sciences, and natural sciences, and prides itself on an educational environment that emphasizes creativity and practical skills. Dongduk Women’s University’s greatest strength lies in its top-tier specialized education in the fields of arts, culture, and fashion. In particular, departments such as Clothing & Textiles, Applied Music, and Broadcasting & Entertainment have produced numerous award winners and industry professionals, making the university the undisputed “top choice” for students aspiring to enter these fields. For example, the Department of Applied Music has produced the singer Gummy; the Department of Broadcasting & Entertainment has produced stars such as Kang Se-hyung (Berry Good), Kang Joo-hee (Wink), and actress Lee Si-young. The Department of Clothing & Textiles contributes to strengthening the global status of K-fashion and is actively participating on international stages such as global fashion weeks. The humanities, social sciences, and business fields also offer various industry-academia collaborations based on women’s leadership and practical curricula, allowing students to gain field-oriented experience through internships and practical projects with domestic and international companies and institutions. In particular, the university offers vibrant exchange programs with overseas partner universities, providing attractive opportunities for students seeking both academic and global experiences. Dongduk Women’s University has proven its influence through numerous renowned alumni. Notable examples include broadcaster Jung Sun-hee (Department of Economics), actresses Lee Si-young and Kim Jae-kyung (Department of Clothing & Textiles), and singer Gummy (Department of Applied Music), all of whom have nurtured their dreams here and now lead the K-POP, drama, film, and fashion industries. In addition, Dongduk alumni are active as leaders in various fields such as broadcasting, fashion, arts, media, and the public sector, driving positive change in society. Dongduk Women’s University is not only renowned as a “cradle of female talent,” but also serves as an important milestone in Korean women’s education by continuously producing creative and enterprising female leaders across society. For international students, Dongduk Women’s University offers a stable and systematic support system. As of 2024, the university has acquired certification from the Korean Ministry of Education’s International Education Quality Assurance System (IEQAS), allowing students to receive additional points for visa issuance and extension, as well as scholarship screening. The scholarship system for new international students is excellent, providing full tuition exemption for four years (six years for pharmacy majors) to outstanding freshmen, along with a monthly book allowance of 300,000 KRW and up to 6 million KRW in support for language training at overseas partner universities. The dormitory, located right next to Yejigwan, offers excellent campus accessibility and provides a safe and comfortable environment primarily with double rooms. To promote international exchange and nurture global talent, some major and liberal arts courses are offered in English, and the International Student Support Center provides one-on-one assistance throughout the entire process, including admissions, daily life, visas, and career guidance. In addition, a variety of programs tailored for international students are available, including cultural exchange events, tutoring, and Korean language education. The campus is easily accessible on foot from major Seoul subway stations (Sangwolgok, Wolgok), making transportation very convenient. Student-centered facilities such as a multi-purpose cultural space, art hall, library, and state-of-the-art practice rooms are well equipped, providing an optimal environment for study and self-development. Although located in the city center, the campus harmoniously blends a pleasant natural environment with an artistic atmosphere, making it an ideal place to gain creative inspiration.
