Busan Catholic University is a four-year private university located in Geumjeong-gu, Busan, where the sea and mountains harmonize. It boasts a meaningful history, originating from the “Maryknoll School of Nursing,” which was established to promote the health and happiness of local residents wounded in the aftermath of the Korean War. Today, it has grown into a leading Catholic university in Busan, firmly upholding its identity as a “humanism-specialized university” that practices the values of respect for life and sharing. Particularly renowned nationwide in the fields of nursing, health, and social welfare, Busan Catholic University has established a practical and future-oriented academic system, including the College of Nursing, College of Health Sciences, College of Applied Sciences, and College of Social Sciences. The Department of Nursing, for example, is recognized for offering one of the highest-quality curricula in Korea and boasts global competitiveness through industry-academia cooperation with domestic and international healthcare institutions, as well as dual degree programs with overseas universities (such as the dual degree in physical therapy with AUT in New Zealand). In addition, the university provides field-oriented education in various applied science fields such as social welfare, counseling, clinical pathology, and health administration, resulting in high employment rates and strong job adaptability for graduates not only in Busan and the Yeongnam region but also nationwide. The social impact of Busan Catholic University is well demonstrated by its alumni, who are active in diverse fields. The university has produced numerous leaders in medicine, education, religion, media, and other sectors. In particular, the fact that many leaders in the medical, social welfare, and Catholic communities are alumni is a key factor that enhances the university’s credibility and prestige. The mission of “life and service,” rooted in its founding background, remains the enduring strength of Busan Catholic University, regardless of changing times. The support system for international students is also among the best in Korea. The university has received the Ministry of Education’s IEQAS (International Education Quality Assurance System) certification for five consecutive years, which provides advantages in visa and scholarship applications. It also operates a differentiated scholarship system based on Korean language proficiency (TOPIK) at the time of admission, offering up to two years of full tuition exemption. For example, holders of TOPIK Level 6 receive a full tuition waiver for two years, Level 5 for one year, and Levels 3–4 for the first semester. During enrollment, outstanding students can receive additional scholarships of up to 3 million KRW (for a GPA of 4.3 or higher), and there are also tailored scholarships for students from key partner countries. Dormitory accommodation (four-person rooms) is provided free of charge to all scholarship recipients. The Office of International Affairs actively operates global programs such as language training, exchange student opportunities, and overseas internships. As an official TOPIK test center, the university makes it very convenient for international students to improve their Korean proficiency and obtain certification. Some majors offer courses in English, and there are systematic counseling and career support services dedicated to international students. The campus is situated in Busan’s pleasant natural environment, with convenient transportation such as subways and city buses, and is close to various urban cultural and convenience facilities. The university boasts student-centered infrastructure, including a student union building, library, dedicated dormitories, and state-of-the-art lecture halls. A variety of club activities, volunteer programs, religious and cultural events are available, enabling international students to quickly adapt to campus life. At Busan Catholic University, which embraces the values of “respect for life” and “sharing,” you can pursue your dream of becoming a global leader.
